How to create new Location?

Introduction:

In Atlassys Transportation Management System (TMS), accurately defining and managing locations is pivotal for efficient logistics and transportation operations. If you cannot find an existing location, you have the option to create a new one. This guide explains how to create a new location within your TMS for streamlined pick-up and delivery point management.

Step 1: Check for Existing Locations

  1. To begin, use the search functionality within your TMS to check if the location you are looking for already exists on your system. This search can be conducted using the zip code associated with the location.

  2. If you find an existing location that meets your requirements, you can simply select it from the search results. The location information will be automatically populated in the corresponding fields during the creation or editing of pick-up or delivery points.

Step 2: Create a New Location

  1. If you do not find an existing location that matches your needs, you should proceed to create a new location.

  2. In the TMS, locate and click on the "Create and Edit" button, often available as a dropdown option, to initiate the location creation process.

Step 3: Populate Location Details

  1. A pop-up window will appear, prompting you to provide the necessary location details.

  2. Fill in the following fields:

    • Search (Using Zip Code): Conduct another search, this time using the zip code that matches your location.
    • Address: Enter the complete address of the location.
    • Zip Code: Input the zip code for the location.
    • Mark as Drop Location: Check this box if this location is commonly used as a drop-off point.
    • Mark as Contracted (If Needed): If this location is a contracted or special location, check this box.
    • Choose Partner (Consignee/Shipper): If the partner (consignee or shipper) for this location has not been created, you can create it at this stage.

Step 4: Save the Location

  1. After providing all the required details, click the "Save" button in the pop-up window to create the new location.

Step 5: Ensure GPS Coordinates

  1. IMPORTANT: To accurately calculate miles and optimize routes, each location should be associated with GPS longitude and latitude data. Make sure that this data is accurately recorded for the new location you created.

Conclusion:

Creating a new location in your TMS is a straightforward process. Ensure that you populate all relevant location details, and remember to provide accurate GPS longitude and latitude data to enable mileage calculations and route optimization. Efficiently managed locations are essential for the smooth execution of your pick-up and delivery operations in your TMS.
